ICTforAg 2023, hosted by USAID as part of Feed the Future, CGIAR, and DAI, was an online event where agrifood system stakeholders, technology experts, and enthusiasts gathered to share knowledge, find solutions, and form partnerships to address challenges in agrifood systems across low and middle-income countries.

Catalysing Digital Inclusion through Human Centered Design

We leveraged the AgriPath learnings, to lead a session that demonstrated how Human Centered Design (HCD) can be applied to design inclusive Digital Advisory Services (DAS). Our approach to inclusion goes beyond women and youth to also include vulnerable farming communities that are traditionally excluded because of factors such as low literacy levels, cost of data and smart devices, poor connectivity and lack of/ limited mobile infrastructure.  

Our session focused on the farmbetter digital extension app, to share our HCD journey across the 5 AgriPath implementing countries (Tanzania, Uganda, Burkina Faso, India, Nepal) and highlight key design, content and user interface considerations that influence the uptake of digital solutions among women, youth and other vulnerable communities. Through our experience, we aim to provide other digital solution implementers with practical, evidence based approaches to catalyze digital inclusion.
